Son of Philip V. He succeeded his father to the throne of Macedonia after the latter's death. Since 171-168 BC he fought against the Romans, during the 3rd Macedonian war, by whom he was defeated in the battle of Pydna. This event marked the end of the Macedonian kingdom and the Antigonid dynasty. Rome divided the Macedonian territory into four parts.
