Father of two sons, Antigonus II Gonatas, whose mother was the wife of Demetrius I Poliorcetes, Phila (daughter of Antipater and sister of Cassander) and Antigonus III Doson whose mother was Ptolemais (daughter of Ptolemy I Soter and his first wife Eurydice). He ruled in Macedonia only during 294-287 BC. In 306 BC he freed Athens from Cassander's sway. In 305-304 BC he besieged Rhodes unsuccessfully. In 301 BC he and his father Antigonus I Monophthalmos (One-eyed) were defeated in the battle of Ipsus, where the latter was killed. In 285 BC he was arrested by Seleucus I Nicator and in 283 BC he died of excessive consumption of alcohol.
