Son of Antiochus I Soter and Stratonice (daughter of Demetrius Poliorcetes and second wife of Seleucus I Nicator). His first wife was his cousin Laodice I, daughter of his uncle, Achaeus the Elder. Together they had a son. His second wife was Berenice, by whom he had Seleucus II Callinicus and three more children. Their daughter Laodice married Mithradates II of Pontus.
