 Son of Antiochus I Soter and Stratonice (daughter of Demetrius Poliorcetes and second wife of Seleucus I Nicator). His first wife was his cousin Laodice I, daughter of his uncle, Achaeus the Elder. Together they had a son. His second wife was Berenice, by whom he had Seleucus II Callinicus and three more children. Their daughter Laodice married Mithradates II of Pontus. He succeeded his father and from 260 until 153 BC approximately he confronted Ptolemy II Philadelphus, during the 2nd Syrian war. After his death, he was succeeded by his son Seleucus II Callinicus.
