On September 13-15, 1996, the National Technical University of Athens, sponsored by the European Parliament President Dr. Klaus Hansch, organised the international congress "The Athens Summit '96", on "Europe and Democracy - Past, Present and Future". The congress took place simultaneously at the Astir Palace Hotel and the National Historical Museum - Old House of Parliament.

The innovative 3D animations reconstructing ancient theatres produced by the Foundation of the Hellenic World were received particularly well by the congress.

Making use of the possibilities offered by modern technology, the FHW creates various programmes that show the determining contribution Hellenism has made to the concepts of Democracy and the Olympics, two of the most discussed issues throughout the congress.

With the use of computers, twenty-two Bouleuteria of ancient Greece were described through images and explanatory texts, and particular emphasis was given to ancient Athens and Miletus. The Foundation also produced an electronic exhibit presenting the history of the modern parliamentary system and the historical building of the Old Parliament.

The electronic presentation "Olympics through Time" was particularly successful with its pages on Antiquity that include the names of olympic champions and the games they excelled in.

On September 15th, the president of the Foundation, Mr. Lazaros Efraimoglou, spoke of the aims and activities of the Foundation, filling the audience of the Old Parliament's amphitheatre with enthusiasm.
