Julian: Byzantine emperor from 361 to 363, also known as
"the Apostate". He was half-brother of Constantine the Great and he received classical
education at Nikomedeia and Athens. In 361 he succeeded Constantius and one of
his first activities was the restoration of paganism. His conflict with the Church
was severe, however an end was given by his mysterious death in 363 during his
expedition in Persia.
