Andreas Metaxas (1790-1860).
He was of Cephallonian descent. When the 1821 War of Independence broke out, he went to the Peloponnese and became leader of the armed force of the Ionian islanders and took part in many battles. He was a devout supporter of Kapodistrias and, after his assasination, became leader of the Russian party.
