White
(Akce, akca, asper)
Ottomans silver coin. First circulation in the early 14th century. It dominated financial transactions until the end of the 17th century when it was succeeded by the Kurus. For centuries it was the basic unit of tax distribution in the subject communities. Its weight and silver content varied according to economic circumstances. Even today the word 'white' (Akce) -mainly in proverbs and lyrics of folk songs- connotes wealth and money.
