Cross-in-square church
Cross-in-square church: a type of church in which the structuring of the interior spaces and the roofing form the shape of the cross and are inscribed into the square shape of the ground plan. Depending on the supports of the dome, these churches are known as two-columned or distyle churches, when the dome rests on two columns or piers to the west and on the piers of the chancel at the east, or as four-columned church when it is supported by four columns.
