Catalan Grand Company: Military organisation founded in Catalonia in the 13th century by the Catalans, and was joined by various adventurers. They served as mercenaries in the armies of several sovereigns, including the Byzantine emperor Andronikos II. After they had rebelled and pillaged Thrace, Macedonia and Thessaly, they descended into eastern Greece in 1311 and settled there until 1387.
