Of the architectural type known as the 'temple with false peristyle', the columns of the surround are incorporated into the sanctuary walls. This was a very fashionable type, particularly in the western provinces, as we can see from the 'Maison Carree' at Nimes (France) and from the temple of Augustus and Livia at Vienna.
