Scenes of wrestling and boxing scenes are fairly commonly represented in Minoan art, especially on seals and the boxer fresco from Tylissos. However, the best witness of these sports is the renowned stone rhyton of the boxers from Agia Triada showing various boxing and wrestling scenes in zones. The athletes are depicted wearing athletic loincloths, gloves, helmets and kneepads. A similar wrestling scene can be found on the young boxers fresco from Akrotiri on Thera.
Although we do know that bull-leaping was associated with religion, we do not know whether wrestling matches were just a part of religious ceremonies, or if they included some kind of symbolism as in Egypt where wrestling matches represented the victory of Osiris over his adversaries.
