A clay model of a house, the so-called 'small house' of Archanes,
comes from an urban building of Archanes which dates to
the Middle Minoan IIIA period.
The other finds from the small house, tools and unprocessed raw materials,
indicate that the house was used as a workshop.
The small house model represents a two-storey house
with an internal roofed court on the ground floor and a room with a projecting
veranda on the first floor. The roof of the ground floor and the room are supported by
columns. The ground floor has 2 rooms with wooden framed windows. The architectural
features of the small house correspond to the representations of Minoan buildings in the
Fleet fresco from Akrotiri on Thera, and to the facades of the houses depicted on the Town Mosaic.
