Tales of cities
Every four years the Olympic city becomes the
"stage" that hosts the Olympic Games. It is a "performance"
where athletes and organizers are the leading characters and the
whole world the audience.
The Games transform the city. Preparations take many
years, absorb large amounts of money and often bring political and
social conflict. Most of the residents are in favour of the city's
effort to organize the Olympic Games; but there are those who believe
that the economic burden will prove unbearable and that the construction
of the necessary infrastructure will prove detrimental to the city’s
ecology and planning.
Every Olympic city organizes the Olympic Games in
a unique way. It emphasizes not only the national framework, in
which it belongs, but also the character of the city itself. Each
Games is a clear reflection of national and local characteristics.
