During the Archaic period metalworking was greatly developed and it transformed the mainly oriental influences into a purely Greek type, expressed through the local schools of bronze statuettes. The workshops of Ionia and Peloponnese played an important role in this process of Hellenising the figures and the decoration. The situation was similar in toreutics, which applied and developed new techniques of manufacturing and decorating the vases. The undeniable centre of toreutics of that period was Peloponnese. Finally, jewellery flourished greatly, the most innovative and active workshops of which are found in Rhodes and Macedonia.
