Public centre

On the northern part of the city the public centre was created. There, most of the public buildings were located, like the sanctuary of Apollo Delphinios, which functioned as the city archive, the Council House, the Gymnasium but also the North Agora, one of the most important complexes in Miletus, which dates from the 5th century BC and constituted the oldest political, commercial and religious centre of the city.

That is why FHW chose to reconstruct this part of the city in a virtual environment. Therefore, the visitors of its Cultural Centre “Hellenic Cosmos” can see the city of Miletus as it was 2,000 years ago, with the buildings in its entirety and with their texture. They can walk around, approach and discover the details of the architecture of each building and fly over the city and have a panoramic look on the Hippodamian plan of the city’s layout. And all these while knowing that they have been created according to the latest scientific views! While the visitors can now admire all the above in the "Kivotos" Virtual Reality system, a great surprise awaits them in September at “Tholos”, where the reconstruction of Miletus will be upgraded and will use state-of-the-art technology in a new Virtual Reality programme.
